Some of our favorite places to run


The City of Wilmington and Greater New Hanover County has no shortage of excellent routes for both short, medium, and long runs. One of the best ways to learn new and interesting routes for your workout is to join one of our Group Runs and let either designated or more experienced members lead the way.

The following table is just a partial list of some of our favorite places to run with some useful details included:

 John Nesbitt Loop @
 Wrightsville Beach
 2.5 M Park at the Wrightsville Beach Police station or recreation area and make one or more laps around the famous John Nesbitt Loop. 
 Greenfield Lake  4.1 M  Park at the Tennis Courts and Boat Rental area. One lap around the lake is just over 4 miles.
Gary Shell Cross-City Trail  Variable The Gary Shell Cross-City Trail is Wilmington’s largest, most innovative solution to alternative transportation as it provides residents with improved and additional bicycle and pedestrian options. Whe completed, then trail will cross the city from Wade Park in south Wilmington to the drawbridge at Wrightsville Beach and will be 15 miles long.
 
UNCW Harold Greene
Track & Field Complex
 Track Completed in 1988, the Greene Track Complex is an Olympic-class track facility. Considered one of the best in the region, the all-weather track has eight lanes with a full-depth colored polyurethane surface. Great for your speed work (especially on Thursday evenings.)
 Port City Java, Market Street  Variable Great place to park, run and relax after the run with a nice beverage. Centrally located to a number of great routes for a Saturday group long run through historic Wilmington neighborhoods. [See Tracy's Favorite PCJM Routes below for your next ten miler.]
 Port City Java, Lumina Station  Variable Great place to park, run and relax after the run with a nice beverage. Centrally located to a number of great routes for a Saturday group long run around Wrightsville Beach and the Cross-City Trail. [See Tracy's Favorite PCJL Routes below for your next ten miler.]
 Whole Foods, Oleander Drive  Variable Great place to park, run and relax after the run with wide range of fuel up otpions. Centrally located to a large number of different of routes for a Sunday group long run through historic Wilmington neighborhoods. [See Frank's Favorite WF Routes below for your next ten miler.]
 Fleet Feet @ The Forum Variable Park at the Forum and you have a number of directions to choose from: around the corner to Wrightsville Beach, through Mayfaire to Autumn Hall or the Cross-City trail, or even duck through Landfall. Once you are done, go visit Fleet Feet and check out the cool gear and runner friendly staff.   
 The Hilton / Downtown Wilmington  Variable  
 Carolina Beach State Park Variable With a wide variety of well marked trails that traverse the state park over a wide variety of terrain from Snow's Cut to the Cape Fear River, you will never grow run out of room or grow tired of its natural Carolina charm. 
 Blue Clay Bike Park (Trails) ~6 m With approximately 8 miles of trails and an intermediate loop path of about 6 miles, this park is great fun for trail biking (and superb for trail running.)
 Park Avenue  Connector  One of Wilmington's longest and "quietest" streets that extends from Greenville Ave. all the way to Dawson St. Just about into the downtown area.
